Ho Ho Ho….only 2 weeks to go!! Yep…..that’s right!! Time to start my Christmas shopping I guess. BUT….there are things going on this week too that really shouldn’t be missed. Once again, I’ve broken down the events by category.
Theatre: At The Gladstone this week, It’s a Wonderful Life, The Radio Show continues for its second week ending on Saturday and then with almost no turn around time, A Christmas Carol Starts up on Sunday and runs until the 22nd. Also for Christmas, Ballet Jorgen’s The Nutcracker can be enjoyed at Shenkman Arts Centre on Wednesday and Thursday, while The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is also running at Shenkman From Thursday to Sunday. The Great Canadian Theatre Company (GCTC) continues Bed and Breakfast starting until December 22nd and at the NAC, The Hockey Sweater: A Musical continues its run all week until the 23rd.
Concerts: As per usual for the weeks leading up to Christmas, there aren’t too many big names touring on for the music/concert scene, but there are still a few great shows in the nation’s capital. On Thursday, the Philosopher Kings are at Mavericks, and JW Jones and Friends are at Meridian Theatres at Centerpointe. Friday night has the Headstones playing at The Bronson Centre and Ambush can be found at the Rideau Carleton Raceway for the first of back to back nights. On Saturday, Stars is at the NAC.
Sports: After three home games last week, the Sens are on the road all week. However, the 67’s have two games at home on the weekend with the Flint Firebirds visiting on Friday, and Owen Sound Attack here on Saturday.
Seasonal Activities: The major shopping event of the season is the Christmas Originals Craft sale, which continues for the week at the EY Centre. I do believe that it’s the biggest craft sale of the season so if you’ve been holding out, now’s the time to get your craft on!! The Magic of Lights continues each night at Wesley Clover Park, and you must buy your tickets in advance. Or, Parliament Hill continues it’s Christmas Lights Across Canada free show each night. Also, a family fun night out can be found at the Ottawa Family Cinema on Saturday where they’ll be showing the seasonal Polar Express 3D experience.
A full list of this week’s events can be found here!!
My top three events of the week:
- Ottawa Bevy 002 (Saturday, Allsaints Event Space)
- MayoFest: Very Mayo Christmas (Saturday, Rainbow Bistro)
- Broadway Workout (Thursday, Studio X)
Where will I be??
I’m taking a week away from events (maybe) and with only one night scheduled, I probably won’t be out and about too much. I must get some Christmas shopping done at some point, right??
