Here we are at the end of March, the snow has gone down about 18 feet, and I’ve seen robins on my lawn. Spring is officially here and it’s definitely in the air!! It was a busy weekend in Ottawa, and judging from the clicks on my site, the Ottawa/Gatineau Auto Show, The Geek Market, Coffee Fest and The Home and Garden show were the big hits. I hope you were able to get out and enjoy!! This week coming up isn’t as heavy with the trade shows, but there are still so many great events!! After all, we have to mix it up!
This week, we’ll start with sports! The Sens were on a long road trip, but they’re back home this week with three home games. Tuesday night, the Buffalo Sabres are in town, Thursday night, the Florida Panthers are here, and Saturday it’s the Toronto Maple Leafs. Wouldn’t it be fun if the Sens completely embarrass the defensively challenged leafs again? Also on the hockey side, the Ottawa 67’s are hosting GAME 5 of the first playoff series on Thursday (If necessary). (Game #2 is underway as I’m writing this so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to edit it prior to posting).
Not too many big names on the concert schedule this week. The Tea Party are returning to Algonquin Commons Theatre on Monday night for the second time in as many months. Ambush have a pair of concerts this weekend, Friday night at the Barley Mow on Merivale, and Saturday at Grace O’Malley’s. Also on Saturday, you can catch JW Jones at Live! On Elgin, or WIZKID Live in Concert at the EY Centre. Stepping away from traditional concerts, monday night at the NAC, you can see Kodo, an internationally renowned drumming group that looks so good! Also at the NAC this week, Anderson Cooper will be live on stage!
It’s a big week for theatrical/musical performances in Ottawa! First off, on the theatre side at the Gladstone, the Bear and Co. production of King Lear continues for its second week. A Man for All Seasons starts at Kanata Theatre for two weeks, and the highly anticipated Shrek: The Musical by the Greely Players runs from Wednesday to Sunday! This show looks awesome!!! Another fun event this week is the Ottawa Theatre Challenge at Arts Court. It’s a competition where various theatre companies are invited to come out and put on a show against rival companies. It’s such a fun idea!! Next up is The Wizard of Oz Live Orchestra at the NAC which is running from Thursday to Saturday, and Orchestra from Planet X (which looks really interesting) is also at the NAC Saturday and Sunday!
There are a couple neat family friendly events this week. The famous sloth that has been at the Museum of Nature for a couple months is heading out for a visit with her bobcat friend to the Nepean Sportsplex for the Little Ray’s Wildlife Festival which will be on Friday to Sunday. There’s also a Maple Sugar Celebration in the Byward Market this Saturday and Sunday with plenty of activities for the kids!
Finally, there are a few more events that I want to mention that don’t really fit in with the other categories. First, Nature Nocturne is on this Friday night with the theme of “Unicorn or Narwhal?” I’m not sure what that theme means for guest participation, hopefully it’s not wearing big horns all night though…That might be odd. Regardless of horn wearing or not, Nature Nocturne is always really fun! Second, Runway for Hope is happening on Saturday at the Horticulture Building. This annual event raises money for CHEO and is supposedly quite a great event to attend! (I’ve sadly never been). Thirdly, the Ottawa Travel and Vacation Show is happening this weekend at the Shaw Centre, and last but certainly not least, the Ottawa Spring Craft Show is going on all weekend at the Centurion Centre.
A full list of this week’s events can be found here!!
Where will I be?
I can walk this week!! I’m cleared to finally start putting weight on my now-not-so-broken-ankle. So, in a purely intelligent and mature fashion, I need to get out and overdo it!! Tuesday night, I want to go to the Local Talks event at Shopify, it’s theme is building brand awareness using social media. Tickets are pretty much gone, with only last minute left, so don’t got buying them all….I don’t have mine yet. ? Wednesday night, I will be attending Shrek: The Musical in Greely…..I’m so excited!! This weekend, I really don’t know yet as it’ll come down to the weather.
