Covert Ottawa Newsletter: Concerts, Festivals and Theatre….Oh My! Edition

Hi, everyone! I hope that you enjoyed the long weekend! I was able to get out and enjoy the weather both Sunday and Monday. We bought a giant play structure from Costco last fall, and it sat in the garage all winter waiting for warm weather to return. This seemed like the perfect weekend to get construction started. It is estimated to take two people sixteen hours to build; I’m at about nine hours so far, so I think I’m ahead of the game. I’m pretty proud of myself, too! ?

Anyway, on to events! The series of Rib and Poutine festivals continues this week. Barrhaven Rib and Poutine Festival wrapped up on Monday, but not to worry: the fun starts back up again in Kanata in just a few days! You can head out to March Road Friday through Sunday to get your rib and poutine on!

This Saturday is the annual Great Glebe Garage Sale! If you’re new to Ottawa, and have even a remote love for garage sale-ing, this is the event for you. The entire Glebe neighbourhood participates, with plenty of additional vendors throughout with crafts, food and drinks; not to mention a plethora of entertainment on and off the main roads. It’s way more than just a community garage sale, it’s an event for everyone! My suggestion is to get there early to get reasonably close parking. It’s very, very bust, making it tricky to get around, so count on many delays if you’re driving through the Glebe that day. If you plan on attending, you can also consider dropping your car off on Friday night to grab a prime spot.

Coming up in two weeks is the City of OM Yoga festival. They claim to have over 10,000 people go through this festival and apparently, it’s quite an amazing place to be! This festival takes place on Saturday, June 3rd, plus a one-hour special session the night before. It’s all happening at the Aberdeen Pavilion and the Great Lawn at Lansdowne Park.

Announcements!

In case you missed it, Cityfolk Festival announced their lineup this past week. This five-day festival takes place from September 13th – 17th on the Great Lawn at Lansdowne Park. Headliners include Hozier (previously announced), X Ambassadors, Kaleo, David Kushner, Bush, Headstones, Arkells, and even the handsome Iggy Popp, who seems to have re-surfaced from the dead to play a show!

Also in announcements: keep an eye on the Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival social media accounts and website Tuesday morning, as they will be releasing their lineup too! (Also, listen to the Live 88.5 morning show) I love this festival; they always have great acts, and you can’t beat the price (FREE!) So definitely check that out! That announcement may have happened before you’re reading this post, but hey….what can you do?

That’s it for this edition: short and sweet. I hope everyone has a great week!
