SUMMARY:Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue with Southern Avenue
DESCRIPTION:Born Troy Andrews\, Trombone Shorty got his start earlier than most: at four\, he made his first appearance at Jazz Fest performing with Bo Diddley; at six\, he was leading his own brass band; and by his teenage years\, he was hired by Lenny Kravitz to join his Electric Church World Tour. Shorty’s proven he’s more than just a horn player\, though. Catch his NAC gig\, open the pages of a magazine\, flip on any late-night TV show\, and you’ll see an undeniable star with utterly magnetic charisma\, a natural-born showman who can command an audience with the best of them. \nLifted\, his most recent album from 2022\, finds the Grammy-nominated NOLA icon and his bandmates tapping into the raw power and exhilarating grooves of their legendary live show\, channelling it all into a series of tight\, explosive performances that blur the lines between funk\, soul\, R&B\, and psychedelic rock. The writing is bold and self-assured\, standing up to hard times and loss with grit and determination\, and the playing is muscular to match\, blending pop gleam with hip-hop swagger and second-line abandon. \nAnd to start off your evening\, Southern Avenue will be presenting their album\, Family. More than a record to them—it’s a declaration of their growth and unity. Born in the heart of Memphis\, their sound reflects the cultural crossroads of the city\, a tapestry of harmonies and rhythms that could only come from a melting pot of experiences like theirs. These songs chronicle their evolution\, not just as a band\, but as a family. They dive into the moments that shaped them\, the struggles that tested them\, and the dreams that keep them moving forward. The sound of destiny fulfilled—the sound of people who were meant to find one another. This album isn’t just something to hear; it’s something to feel. Like a vibrant family photo album\, these songs capture snapshots of their past\, reflections of their present\, and their hopes for the future. To them\, music is about connection\, and this collection of songs is their invitation to share that connection with you.

SUMMARY:Blue Rodeo
DESCRIPTION:Now celebrating their 40th anniversary\, Blue Rodeo has proven to be one of Canada’s most enduring and important bands. They have received 31 JUNO Award nominations (winning 12) and 17 CCMA Awards (winning two). Since their formation in Toronto when they electrified the supercool Queen West scene — before dominating the soft-seaters and arenas of the nation — Blue Rodeo has sold more than four million albums\, played thousands of shows\, been inducted into both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame\, received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame\, been named to the Order of Canada and been honoured with the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award. \nThe magic of Blue Rodeo’s sound comes from the distinct yet complementary songwriting styles of its lead singers\, paired with the exceptional musicianship of its members. Today\, the band has expanded to include original member Bazil Donovan\, whose bass lines provide a rock-solid foundation\, with drummer Glenn Milchem’s dynamic playing driving every song forward. Keyboardist Michael Boguski adds rich textures\, Colin Cripps deepens the sound with his masterful guitar work and harmonies\, and multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Bowskill brings versatility with guitar\, mandolin\, pedal steel\, and fiddle\, rounding out the band’s signature blend of country\, rock\, and roots. \nAnd coming as the opener is Adam Baldwin! \nWith his sophomore full-length\, Concertos & Serenades\, Adam Baldwin – born and raised “inside these imaginary lines” that denote Nova Scotia – offers an east coast testimony that challenges the typical tourism marketing gloss. Through eight masterful yarns\, the songwriter bears witness and pays tribute to a tradition of desperation: sinners and losers\, perpetual failures\, and down-and-out phantoms that haunt his home’s coastlines and back roads – without a passing judgement. Some of the tales happened\, some didn’t\, and most walk a tightrope between truth and fiction. \nIt’s a good thing\, too\, because Concertos & Serenades does nothing less than tell the other side of the story about\, “a wind-battered people\, who grow up with a callus over our whole body\,” as the songwriter himself puts it. \nSinger-songwriter Adam Baldwin has been a mainstay of the Atlantic Canada music scene for over a decade! \nBlue Rodeo 40th Anniversary Tour Package Available

SUMMARY:Festival of Small Halls Presents: Corb Lund
DESCRIPTION:A rural Albertan hailing from the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with a long family lineage of ranchers and rodeo people\, Corb Lund is about as authentic as they come\, and equally as hard to define. \nThe western Canadian singer-songwriter is an elusive artist — onstage\, offstage\, and in the studio — seamlessly weaving between the outlaw country\, Western\, and indie-folk realms with an honest curiosity and rowdy devotion to each. He was raised with the tried and true DIY sentiment of “if you want something done\, you gotta do it yourself” launching his career recording in his basement\, printing his own shirts\, booking his own tours\, being his own manager and publicist… whatever it took to get it done. He toured for years with the indie-metal band the smalls\, and later turned his sights to writing Western songs\, creating a unique and quirky hybrid writing style along the way. He has received multiple domestic and international award nominations and wins. In 2022\, Lund won his 14th career Canadian Country Music Award and made his debut at the historic Grand Ole Opry. His album of originals\, El Viejo\, was released in February 2024.

SUMMARY:Festival of Small Halls Presents: Junkhouse
DESCRIPTION:Junkhouse emerged from the Canadian rock scene in the late 1980s\, quickly establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the world of alternative rock. With their soulful\, gritty sound and poetic lyrics\, Junkhouse captured the hearts of music enthusiasts worldwide. Led by the charismatic Tom Wilson\, this band created a unique sonic landscape that resonated with a diverse audience. Formed in 1989\, Junkhouse was a collective of seasoned musicians hailing from different corners of the Canadian music scene. Tom Wilson\, known for his distinctive gravelly voice and evocative songwriting\, served as the group’s frontman. His powerful presence on stage and ability to connect with audiences became one of Junkhouse’s defining features. The late Dan Achen’s lead guitar work brought a dynamic edge to the band’s sound\, weaving intricate melodies and searing solos into their songs. Bassist Russ Wilson and drummer Ray Farrugia provided the tight\, rhythmic backbone that anchored the band’s performances and studio recordings. Junkhouse’s music was a potent blend of rock\, blues\, and folk influences\, creating a sound that was both raw and melodic. Their debut album\, “Strays”\, released in 1993\, showcased their distinctive style and produced the hit singles “Out of My Head” and “Praying For The Rain”. The songs received extensive radio play and catapulted Junkhouse to national recognition. Following their successful debut\, Junkhouse released several more albums\, including “Birthday Boy” (1995) and “Fuzz” (1997)\, featuring the hit song “Shine”. Each release demonstrated the band’s evolution and their commitment to pushing musical boundaries while staying true to their roots. Their live performances were legendary\, characterised by Tom Wilson’s magnetic stage presence and the band’s tight-knit musical chemistry. Throughout their career\, Junkhouse earned critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase\, solidifying their place in Canadian rock history. Junkhouse may have disbanded in the late 1990s\, but their music continues to resonate with fans old and new. Their songs are a testament to the enduring power of honest\, heartfelt rock and roll\, and they remain an influential force in the Canadian music landscape. Though their journey as a band may have come to an end\, the legacy of Junkhouse lives on through their timeless music\, leaving an indelible mark on the world of rock.
