SUMMARY:Festival of Small Halls Presents: Corb Lund
DESCRIPTION:A rural Albertan hailing from the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with a long family lineage of ranchers and rodeo people\, Corb Lund is about as authentic as they come\, and equally as hard to define. \nThe western Canadian singer-songwriter is an elusive artist — onstage\, offstage\, and in the studio — seamlessly weaving between the outlaw country\, Western\, and indie-folk realms with an honest curiosity and rowdy devotion to each. He was raised with the tried and true DIY sentiment of “if you want something done\, you gotta do it yourself” launching his career recording in his basement\, printing his own shirts\, booking his own tours\, being his own manager and publicist… whatever it took to get it done. He toured for years with the indie-metal band the smalls\, and later turned his sights to writing Western songs\, creating a unique and quirky hybrid writing style along the way. He has received multiple domestic and international award nominations and wins. In 2022\, Lund won his 14th career Canadian Country Music Award and made his debut at the historic Grand Ole Opry. His album of originals\, El Viejo\, was released in February 2024.

SUMMARY:Festival of Small Halls Presents: Junkhouse
DESCRIPTION:Junkhouse emerged from the Canadian rock scene in the late 1980s\, quickly establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the world of alternative rock. With their soulful\, gritty sound and poetic lyrics\, Junkhouse captured the hearts of music enthusiasts worldwide. Led by the charismatic Tom Wilson\, this band created a unique sonic landscape that resonated with a diverse audience. Formed in 1989\, Junkhouse was a collective of seasoned musicians hailing from different corners of the Canadian music scene. Tom Wilson\, known for his distinctive gravelly voice and evocative songwriting\, served as the group’s frontman. His powerful presence on stage and ability to connect with audiences became one of Junkhouse’s defining features. The late Dan Achen’s lead guitar work brought a dynamic edge to the band’s sound\, weaving intricate melodies and searing solos into their songs. Bassist Russ Wilson and drummer Ray Farrugia provided the tight\, rhythmic backbone that anchored the band’s performances and studio recordings. Junkhouse’s music was a potent blend of rock\, blues\, and folk influences\, creating a sound that was both raw and melodic. Their debut album\, “Strays”\, released in 1993\, showcased their distinctive style and produced the hit singles “Out of My Head” and “Praying For The Rain”. The songs received extensive radio play and catapulted Junkhouse to national recognition. Following their successful debut\, Junkhouse released several more albums\, including “Birthday Boy” (1995) and “Fuzz” (1997)\, featuring the hit song “Shine”. Each release demonstrated the band’s evolution and their commitment to pushing musical boundaries while staying true to their roots. Their live performances were legendary\, characterised by Tom Wilson’s magnetic stage presence and the band’s tight-knit musical chemistry. Throughout their career\, Junkhouse earned critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase\, solidifying their place in Canadian rock history. Junkhouse may have disbanded in the late 1990s\, but their music continues to resonate with fans old and new. Their songs are a testament to the enduring power of honest\, heartfelt rock and roll\, and they remain an influential force in the Canadian music landscape. Though their journey as a band may have come to an end\, the legacy of Junkhouse lives on through their timeless music\, leaving an indelible mark on the world of rock.
