DESCRIPTION:Hijinks on deck!\nThe theatre stage is transformed into a skatepark\, a multifaceted setting where freedom expresses itself through tricks of the parkour\, choreographic flow\, and countercultural high jinks. In this ode to the nostalgia of her youth\, Danish choreographer Mette Ingvartsen explores the speed\, power\, and energy of movement on wheels\, and the music celebrating skater culture’s inclusivity. SKATEPARK’s punks are out for a good time\, with no shortage of gravity-testing jumps and tricks\, parabolas\, and ‘eights’. \nMette Ingvartsen approaches choreography as a “permeable” practice\, one that is fluid\, porous and open to the world. In her research\, she homed in on reframing the smaller movements that surround the practice of skateboarding to define her choreographic language\, and created the work through knowledge sharing in close connection with the skater community in Brussels where she is based. \nOn stage\, a motley crew of Ottawa’s local skaters join with professional dancers\, skateboarders and roller skaters from across generations in a shared space where perseverance\, experimentation and healthy rivalry contribute to a unique sense of community. \nDid you know?\nWhen skateboarding took off in the early to mid 1960s\, Canada adopted the term “skurfboard” to refer to an 18-inch board with roller skate wheels.\nThere are 195 skateparks in Canada\, with 45% of them in British Columbia (source: skatepark.ca 2019). \nFun Fact\nThe prelude to SKATEPARK will be performed by members of Ottawa’s skate community. With this tour\, arts presenter Labyrinth Ontario highlights the founder of the original Labyrinth in Crete: Ross Daly and longtime collaborator Kelly Thoma. \nThis duo has dedicated their lives to the study of modal music\, and are recognized as the foremost experts on the island of Crete’s rich musical tradition. DESCRIPTION:Kick-off December by joining us at Manor Lounge on Elgin\, Monday\, December 1st\, for our Opening & Closing Numbers theme night\, celebrating the showstoppers that start it all and the finales that leave you buzzing. 🌟\n.\n✨ NEW ✨ With a year of incredible sold out shows behind us\, we’re adapting our ticket structure to make sure even more people can enjoy BNO while also making sure we aren’t TOO squished inside our little bubble of theatre joy! 🫧🎭\n.\nGeneral Admission tickets mean you will have a seat in the main area where the show takes place (specific tables and seats are first-come-first-serve).\nWe will in turn be creating extra space in the back of the main room for Standing-Room/Overflow Seating tickets at a lower price-point. This way\, if General Admission tickets are sold out\, you can still enjoy all the magic of the show and dance to your favourite theatre bops (more theatre magic for more friends— hooray!!) And don’t worry\, if you’d like to sit down\, there will be overflow seating in the front half of the venue where you can still hear and sing-along with the show! (Some overflow seats have limited visibility\, but there are also many with a great view of the stage!) 🎭\n.\nTHANK YOU Ottawa for your overwhelming love and support for our little show!!
