SUMMARY:Akeem Oh
DESCRIPTION:AKEEM OH presents FEAR OF MISSING OUT at the National Arts Centre — the highly anticipated debut EP from the self-proclaimed soft.boi.indie.pop artist\, premiering in the city where it all began. Writing from the edge of the moment\, AKEEM OH creates music where romance meets reflection\, vulnerability feels cinematic\, and nostalgia hums beneath neon light. \nBorn in Philadelphia and raised in Mattawa\, his identity is shaped by contrast. An African-American artist adopted by white and Indigenous French-Canadian parents\, AKEEM OH brings a deeply personal lens to his work — exploring emotion\, belonging\, and duality with honesty and curiosity. \nA true DIY musician\, AKEEM OH writes\, produces\, and performs much of his music\, blending the melodic sensibility of Paul McCartney with the modern indie-pop textures of HAIM\, MGMT\, and Beach House. His sound — shimmering\, intimate\, and confessional — feels like a late-night walk after a strange date. \nFollowing early recognition from CBC\, and growing support from AWAL and Sony Music Canada\, AKEEM OH’s current era explores longing\, romantic fantasy\, and the tension of “almost.” Through recurring visuals like the balloon — a symbol of fleeting emotion and pressure — he builds immersive worlds that extend beyond the music. \nA seasoned live performer\, AKEEM OH has played hundreds of shows\, including sold-out performances at the National Arts Centre\, Club SAW\, Horseshoe Tavern\, and Bronson Centre (where he opened for Elijah Woods)\, as well as audiences of over 10\,000 at Les Francos de Montréal. His energetic yet intimate performances have earned him recognition from Billboard Canada as a “hotly-tipped act.” \nEvery release\, performance\, and era AKEEM OH builds is intentional — immersive worlds that extend beyond the music. His FOMOTIONAL Mail project\, which sends cryptic letters and handmade postcards to over 300 fans\, reflects his belief that music should feel personal — something you can hold in your hands. \nUltimately\, AKEEM OH makes music about connection — to memory\, to feeling\, and to the spaces between people\, where vulnerability takes centre stage.

SUMMARY:Classic Albums Live: The Beatles
DESCRIPTION:The Beatles\, commonly referred to as The White Album\, is the ninth studio album and only double album by the English rock band the Beatles\, released on 22 November 1968. Featuring a plain white sleeve\, the cover contains no graphics or text\, except for the band’s name embossed. This was intended as a direct contrast to the vivid cover artwork of the band’s previous LP\, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967). The Beatles is recognised for its fragmentary style and diverse range of genres\, including folk\, country rock\, British blues\, ska\, music hall\, hard rock\, and avant-garde. It has since been viewed by some critics as a postmodern work and is widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time. The album was the band’s first LP release on their then-recently founded Apple Records after previous albums were released on Parlophone in the United Kingdom and Capitol Records in the United States.

SUMMARY:Carneiro\, Mozart & Goodyear
DESCRIPTION:A heartfelt work guided by the composer’s devout Protestant faith\, Felix Mendelssohn’s “Reformation” Symphony commemorates the 300th anniversary of the Presentation of the Augsburg Confession\, a pivotal event in the history of the Lutheran Church. Throughout this monumental work\, you’ll encounter music inspired by Renaissance masses\, religious processions\, and Johann Sebastian Bach chorales\, culminating in a triumphant finale based on Martin Luther’s famous hymn\, “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.” \nAnd like Mendelssohn’s “Reformation” Symphony\, Magnus Lindberg’s Chorale pays tribute to music of faith—in this instance\, the Johann Sebastian Bach chorale “Es ist genug” (It Is Enough)\, whose theme becomes the foundation for a dazzling set of orchestral variations. \nCanadian pianist Stewart Goodyear—“one of the best of his generation” (Philadelphia Inquirer)—returns to the NAC Orchestra to perform Mozart’s Concerto No. 23 for piano and orchestra\, a joy-filled work of operatic lyricism the composer wrote at the same time as his madcap romantic comedy The Marriage of Figaro

SUMMARY:An Evening with Fran Lebowitz
DESCRIPTION:In a cultural landscape filled with endless pundits and talking heads\, Fran Lebowitz stands out as one of our most insightful social commentators. \nHer essays and interviews offer her acerbic views on current events and the media – as well as pet peeves\, including tourists\, baggage-claim areas\, after-shave lotion\, adults who roller skate\, or anyone who is unduly tan. The New York Times Book Review calls Lebowitz an “important humorist in the classic tradition.” Purveyor of urban cool\, Lebowitz is a cultural satirist whom many call the heir to Dorothy Parker. \nLebowitz on special interest groups: “Special-interest publications should realise that if they are attracting enough advertising and readers to make a profit\, the interest is not so special.” \nLebowitz on frankness: “Spilling your guts is exactly as charming as it sounds.” \nLebowitz on herself: “Success didn’t spoil me\, I’ve always been insufferable.” \nThis is Lebowitz off the cuff. Her writing — pointed\, taut and economical — is equally forthright\, irascible\, and unapologetically opinionated. \nLebowitz worked odd jobs\, such as taxi driving\, belt peddling\, and apartment cleaning (“with a small speciality in Venetian blinds”)\, before being hired by Andy Warhol as a columnist for Interview. That was followed by a stint at Mademoiselle. Her first book\, a collection of essays titled Metropolitan Life\, was a bestseller\, as was a second collection\, Social Studies. By turns ironic\, facetious\, deadpan\, sarcastic\, wry\, wisecracking\, and waggish\, Lebowitz’s prose is wickedly entertaining. Her two books are collected in The Fran Lebowitz Reader\, with a new preface by the author. The Fran Lebowitz Reader has been published in nine languages\, including French\, Korean\, Russian\, Spanish\, and Turkish. In 2021\, it was published for the first time in the United Kingdom and became a bestseller. Lebowitz is also the author of the children’s book\, Mr Chas and Lisa Sue Meet the Pandas. \nBetween 2001 and 2007\, Lebowitz had a recurring role as Judge Janice Goldberg on the television drama Law & Order. She also had a part in the Martin Scorsese-directed film\, The Wolf of Wall Street (2013). A raconteur if ever there was one\, Lebowitz has long been a regular on various talk shows\, including those hosted by Jimmy Fallon\, Conan O’Brien\, and Bill Maher. In an interview with the Paris Review\, Lebowitz said\, “I’m not a nervous person. I’m not afraid to be on TV. I’m only afraid when I write. When I’m at my desk\, I feel like most people would feel if they went on TV.” \nShe can also be seen in various documentary films\, including the American Experience series on New York City\, as well as Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures (2016)\, Regarding Susan Sontag (2014)\, and Superstar: The Life and Times of Andy Warhol (1990)\, among others. In 2010\, Martin Scorsese directed a documentary about Lebowitz for HBO titled Public Speaking. A limited documentary series\, Pretend It’s a City\, also directed by Martin Scorsese\, premiered on Netflix in 2021 and was nominated for the 2021 Emmys in the Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series category. In 2021\, she was given the Forte dei Marmi Festival della Satira Lifetime Achievement Award and was a 2021 Foreign Press Honorary Awardee – an award given by the Foreign Press Correspondents Association & Club USA. \nLebowitz was named to Vanity Fair’s International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame in 2008. She remains a style icon. Lebowitz lives in New York City\, as she does not believe that she would be allowed to live anywhere else.

SUMMARY:Sooshi Mango
DESCRIPTION:Sooshi Mango are one of Australia’s most successful and beloved comedy acts\, created by brothers Joe and Carlo Salanitri and their close friend Andrew Manfre. What began just nine years ago as casual\, car-filmed comedy clips quickly grew into a cultural phenomenon. Their relatable\, character-driven humour—rooted in the experiences of immigrant families\, has earned them record-breaking live shows\, viral global reach\, and a devoted audience across Australia and beyond. \nThe trio has achieved unprecedented success in live entertainment\, becoming the only comedy act to sell out both Rod Laver Arena and Qudos Bank Arena multiple times (three and two consecutive sell-outs respectively). Their accolades include an AACTA Award for Favourite Australian Digital Comedy Creator and a feature role in the smash hit motion picture comedy\, Wog Boys Forever. Their transformative 2022 Off the Boat Tour sold over 125\,000 tickets across Australia and marked their international breakthrough\, with sell-out performances across North America (including Toronto\, New York\, Chicago\, Vancouver\, and Boston) and two sold-out shows in London. These appearances introduced their uniquely Australian\, ethnic-inspired comedy to new global audiences. \nDigitally\, Sooshi Mango has become a powerhouse\, amassing more than one billion video views and cultivating an online community of over 8 million followers worldwide! Their characters\, Johnny\, Vince\, and Sam\, along with Giuseppina\, Carmela\, and Angela – have become iconic tributes to migrant parents and grandparents\, blending affectionate parody with universal humour. They also hold the record for the most viral video ever produced in Australia\, with over 170 million views and counting. \nBeyond the stage and screen\, the trio has expanded their creative universe into hospitality and media. In 2023\, they opened Johnny\, Vince & Sam’s Ristorante on Melbourne’s Lygon Street\, bringing their characters into a theatrical dining environment. SUMMARY:Mozart\, Korngold & Bryan Cheng
DESCRIPTION:In one of his signature floods of inspiration\, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed his final three symphonies in six weeks\, culminating in the cosmic grandeur of his “Jupiter” Symphony. Showcasing everything Mozart learned over 24 years of composing symphonies\, the “Jupiter” Symphony sets the stage ablaze with triumphant brass fanfares\, operatic melodies\, and a thrilling finale in which five different melodies simultaneously dart across every corner of the orchestra. \nCanadian cellist Bryan Cheng showcases his “passionate lyricism” (Bachtrack) in Samy Moussa’s Ring—a work of spiky\, angular rhythms and breathtaking virtuosity—and Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Cello Concerto\, whose heartbreakingly beautiful melodies evoke the gilded glamour of film scores from Hollywood’s Golden Age. \nAnd Samuel Barber’s Overture to The School for Scandal captures the world of gossip\, social climbing\, and hilarious hijinks from Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s 18th-century play satirizing the upper crust of British society.

SUMMARY:Schubert’s Monumental Ninth Symphony
DESCRIPTION:The evening culminates in Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 9\, often called “The Great\,” a monumental work that expanded the scale and ambition of the symphony. From its open\, spacious horn calls to its propulsive rhythms and exhilarating final movement\, the Ninth unfolds as a long\, gripping journey that steadily gains momentum before landing in triumph. Bold\, expansive\, and deeply physical\, it is a symphony meant to be felt as much as heard. \nThe first half of the concert turns inward\, opening with French romantic miniatures that explore love\, longing\, and vulnerability. At the heart of this set is Hector Berlioz’s Les Nuits d’été\, a cycle of songs that reveals the composer’s most intimate voice\, tender\, melancholic\, and quietly intense. Mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne brings warmth and emotional clarity to these deeply human reflections on love and loss. \nCompleting the French half is Ophélie\, an evocative symphonic poem by Mel Bonis\, an atmospheric work that heightens the sense of drama and emotion before the orchestra expands fully for Schubert’s monumental symphonic finale.
